The “plum+bite” in the address bar is only a “nice” version of the URL to not display html encoded whitespaces – but it meas “plum bite” actually.
If the results are not shown on the results page, then make sure that the search override feature is enabled, that should do the trick.
If not, then check if there are any other search plugins active, and de-activate them. If not, then the theme might have a custom, hard coded query in the search theme handler file. In that case, you can try this option.
