Well, you can use it that way by creating a search with filters, an then putting it to the sidebar basically. If you wish to use it to live-load the results, you can also set up the results page live loader.
However if you are integrating with WooCommerce, there are plugins specifically made to filter WooCommerce archive/results page. The WooCommerce versions of Yith or SearchWP comes to my mind, those should be very powerful.
