ParticipantHi Ernest,
I hope you’re doing well, my friend!Yesterday I updated the plugin to version 4.21.4 on our staging website (https://dev2.wildguitars.co.il) and performed a test search as I normally do after performing an update. Everything seemed to be working fine so I proceeded to update the plugin our live site as well.
Today, I edited some products (changed prices, categories, etc.). A few hours later, my colleagues brought to my attention that these products no longer appear in the search results! I’ve never experienced a strange issue like this – whenever I’d test our staging website after an update I would always perform a simple test, I never would have thought that I need to search for a product that I recently edited/updated.
I tried clearing our website’s cache (WP Rocket) as well as the ASP plugin’s internal cache; unfortunately it didn’t resolve the issue.
I would appreciate your urgent assistance with this, as customers are unable to search for several products now and this equals missed sales.
You can search for this product as an example: https://www.wildguitars.co.il/product/line-6-pod-go/Thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards,

KeymasterHi Tom,
Can you please review the FTP access? I tried to connect, but it does not seem to work. Let me know if I need any special configuration. Thank you!

ParticipantHi Ernest, thank you for the prompt reply! It turns out that our website blocks FTP access from non-Israeli IPs, and I need our web hosting company to whitelist your IP address. Please provide this address at your earliest convenience, if you’d rather send it via email, my address is [email protected]
Best regards,

ParticipantHi Ernest, I just installed the latest version. I’m not sure how to re-create the index…should I click on “Create new index” or “Continue existing index”?
In any case, our web hosting company has whitelisted your IP address so you can now access the FTP.
Thanks,
TomNovember 10, 2021 at 5:50 pm #35497Ernest Marcinko
KeymasterClick on Create new index button, that will create a new index and refresh the data.

ParticipantHi Ernest, the re-indexing did the trick! Thank you for the tip.
1. This is the first time that I have had to re-index since we launched our website a few years ago. Should I have to expect to do this after every change to a product, or was it a bug that you fixed?2. It looks like the search results aren’t sorted in order of “popularity”. Is there a way to ensure that the most in-demand/viewed products appear first in the results?

KeymasterHi,
1. Not at all, this was a known bug we fixed, and it seems it applied to your case as well. It explains why only some of the products were affected.
2. The default solrting is relevance by default. Of course, if you want to change that, it is possible. When usin WooCommerce, the popularity is stored in a custom field (total_sales), so you can set it up like this: https://i.imgur.com/P3huWU8.png
