ParticipantThank you for such an intuitive search plugin! I have a few comments/suggestions that I would like to provide
1.) Prevent Dashes (-) or Special Characters from counting in the search results
I have found scripts online that will prevent Dashes (-) from counting when the user types in a search query. HOWEVER, I am attempting to prevent the Dashes from counting in the actual Search Results. At our website, we have Index Tables selected for our Search Results. Notice when you type “walk-in” vs “walk in”, you receive different results. I would like to remove the Dashes (-) from the index tables, this way the dashes do not matter for the results shown
2.) Synonyms Cannot have a Space
When attempting to create Synonyms for some of our search queries, I have noticed that the Synonym feature is set to only be one word at a time. Is there anyway to set Synonyms for phrases? For instance we might want to set “Walk In” as a Synonym to “Safety Tub”.
3.) Do Synonyms Lists need to be created?
In other words, if I create multiple Synonyms for the keyword “Walk” – such as “Step”, “Slide”, Safety”. Do I also need to create Synonyms for the keyword “Step”? Or will these all intersync with eachother?
4.) IDEA REQUEST – Add a Custom Result to the Search Results
This would allow someone to add a custom Title, Image, Description, and redirect URL to show in the search results for a list of keywords that we provide. This feature would be EXTREMELY useful for custom content
Thank you for taking the time to assist 🙂

KeymasterHi!
Thank you for your kind words!
1. The index table actually indexes them both ways, so “walk-in” is indexed as “walk-in” and “walk” + “in”. The difference in results is due to the fact that typing “walk-in” will only match items which did have a dash, and the “walk in” will match also the ones having the keywords separated.
There are two ways you can address this. Either by using the keywords exception feature (simply put the dash there). If that does not work, there is a simple programmatical way too.
2. That is intended, and will stay that way for now. Unfortunately there are multiple reasons why it works like that, but hopefully we can change that in the future.
3. No, you can turn on this option. That way each synonym is also treated as a keyword.
4. Thank you, we will definitely consider this in a future release.

ParticipantThank you for the prompt and intuitive reply! I will comment here on my responses
1.) I did add “-” as a Keyword Exception in Advanced Options, but as you can see on ellasbubbles.com, the search bar is still returning different results. After adding the Script to functions.php however – this issue was resolved. I assume that the Keyword Exception Feature does not allow special characters, this would be a nice addition in the future as well so I do not need to “bulk” my functions.php. Nevertheless, issue resolved for now – thank you!
2.) I assumed so, and is a big transition to alter this. No worries, thought I would ask!
3.) Awesome, I have this option turned on – but the English is slightly misleading here. So just to confirm with you, I have the following: https://ibb.co/y8Vb3yx (Imgur seems down right now). With “Use synonyms as keywords as well?” turned on, this setting will also work like this: https://ibb.co/QHhDSkR (Notice “Walk” has changed position)
4.) Would be awesome! 🙂

ParticipantAlso just FYI, current workaround for #4.)
I just create a dummy product, with the title I want and description I want – and then create a redirect from the dummy product url to the page that I want
Thought this might example might help with configuration or suggestions in future 😉
