Thank you very much for the proper details, it helps me a lot!
The issue was, that the search override was disabled, so the plugin was simply redirecting to the results page, without replacing the result objects with the ones from the plugin. I have enabled that here: https://i.imgur.com/RomdGNv.png
Now it should give you the results from the search plugin.
