The highlighter will not highlight the synonym keywords, that works for the keyword entered into the search bar. Synonym keywords are for broadening the search results.
I usually recommend a code or a setting where possible, but this is unfortuantely not doable, it would cause major performance issues if we would implement a highlither for the synonyms as well.
