Almost 5 second to bring up search results

Hi,
We just rebulit our website and moved it to production last week and are having some performance issues with the Ajax Search plugin. It is taking almost 5 seconds to bring up search results. When we used it on the previous site it was much faster even though it was on the same server.
During development we were using the built in search and it was noticeably faster. Can you suggest anything to speed up the searches?

I would highly suggest trying everything from sections 1 and 2, those can be very beneficial.
