I need this to work with custom posts, and custom posts only. I cannot seem to configure that to work, please advise.

    Hi,

You can choose the post types you want under the General Options -> Sources panel (the very first page that opens after creating a search instance).

No, it does not mean that – it is very likely only a configuration related issue.
Can you please add temporary FTP and back-end details so I can check your configuration? If not, a link to a page where the search is visible is also helpful.

    – Do you see any results on the back-end in the preview window?
    – Do you see the custom post types you need to search for under the General Options -> Sources panel?
    – What results come up in the live search list, if any? Posts, pages, categories etc..?
    – Do you have any filters created under the Front-end filters panel? If so, make sure to remove them.
    – Check if there are any exclusions set (Advanced Options panel).
    – Is there any custom code used in the theme functions.php file regarding the plugin?

If you want the search autocomplete feature to show the post type titles, then you can enable that under the atucomplete options.
Select the “Post titles” option, it will automatically get the titles of post types, which are selected under the General Options -> Sources panel.

I’m afraid that is not possible. You can choose some taxonomies on that list there, but not custom fields.
