Hi, I’m having problems with exclusions working properly.
I’ve tried excluding via user, taxonomy, and specific post/pages, but results that should be under those categories are still showing up.
I want things in the AJAX search to only show posts that exist underneath the ‘Magnified List’ category, but results of pages and FAQ post types keep on being included. An example is:
At that URL, if you search ‘food’, some of the right posts come up, but then there are a bunch from pages and FAQs that should be excluded from the results. I’ve also tried to exclude by the unwanted result’s specific ID, but that has not worked either.

In your case I would rather suggest using the inclusion option, rather than the exclusions, it’s much more convenient – as you only need items regarding one category only. You can find that on the Advanced Options -> Exclude results panel: https://i.imgur.com/0TAaPOu.png
This however will still include results which does not have any categories or have no connection with the chosen category. To bypass those as well, turn this option off too: https://i.imgur.com/wvoDjPm.png
This will make sure that only items belonging to the chosen category will be displayed, regardless if they have any other taxonomy term relations.

March 23, 2017 at 5:06 pm #12439Hi,
So I’ve configured the settings to match what you outlined, but I’m still getting results that don’t belong.
Could you go in a possibly take a look? Maybe there’s something else I’m missing, but I’ve tried many combinations of exclusions + inclusions, and now your suggestion, but nothing seems to effectively exclude what I need it to.
If you just search ‘Food’ in the sidebar, you’ll see a bunch of pages and FAQ pages come up regardless of the new settings still.
Thanks

March 23, 2017 at 5:15 pm #12442I see what you mean now, you are reffering to the results page, not the live search.
It was because the search override was not activated, so the default search results were displayed. I’ve turned it on for you on the General Options -> Logics and behavior panel: https://i.imgur.com/lsoyc77.png
It’s not enabled by default, as a lot of customers prefer using the default search or a different search plugin for the results pages. For more info, you can check these topics in the documentation:

March 23, 2017 at 5:21 pm #12443Oh sorry for the confusion. But yes that appears to have been exactly what I was missing.
Thank you very much for your help!
