ParticipantThe filter popup menu just isn’t responsive. It gets cut off at tablet and mobile views. I need help getting it to be responsive on tablet and mobile. It’s just not easy to work with. There are absolutely zero customization/css settings for the menu and it’s ugly, won’t center and stack on mobile.

KeymasterHi,
Sure!
Have you tried to switch to the block layout? It usually sits much better with the document flow.

ParticipantI can try the block layout but I don’t like how it pushes all the content on the page down? I’m also not sure if I know how to enable the block design? Is that just for the filter drop down or does that impact the isotope search?
Also, not sure why, but if you try searching for a floor plan like “Wakefield” it’s returning zero results??? So help with how to fix this might be helpful as well.
Thank you!

KeymasterIt will only impact the settings, not the results. The problem with the floating settings layout is that the “floating” positioned box is out of the document overlfow and can barely follow the screen size.
Also, not sure why, but if you try searching for a floor plan like “Wakefield” it’s returning zero results??? So help with how to fix this might be helpful as well.
I can check if you want, just make sure to add access so I can check the search settings.November 5, 2024 at 3:21 am #51717Kenny Berwager
ParticipantYou cannot access this content.

KeymasterHi!
I was reffering to this feature – I have enabled it for you. There is a custom CSS somewhere limiting the width of the settings to 1000px, I wanted to remove it, but I couldn’t find where it’s placed at. Just letting you know, you probably know where to remove it, in case you want the width of the block to be responsive to the container.
It won’t search properly
Can you please explain in more detail what exactly is the issue with the search? Is it happening to specific phrases or setups?I have checked the search performance as well, I’m getting around 400-600ms responses, which is actually very impressive, your back-end server must be optimized very nicely. The response time only depends on the back-end server performance at this point.
However even a blank WordPress request usually takes at least 400ms, I have rarely ever seen anything faster than that. You can still probably save a few milliseconds and some server load by enabling the cache: https://i.imgur.com/jPzitRT.png
That will slowly build up and you can very likely get another 50-100ms faster. There are plugins which offer “instant” search results, but those mitigate the search requests to their external servers, and are extremely costly (usually $500+/year). You can try to explore those, but in your case I don’t think you would get that much benefit for a much higher recurring price.

ParticipantThanks for switching the filter and pointing me in the right direction. I think I added a max-width of 1000px to the filter menu CSS via the additional CSS in the customized of WP. Not sure.
Regarding the search, It’s not showing very accurate results if you type “Two Story” for example. There are One Story Homes mixed into the results. I need the results to match the query. A few days ago, I’d type the name of a floor plan, McKinley or Wakefield as examples and no results found shows up. On mobile, however, it seems to me working now?? Not sure what else to say, I don’t think something is configured right.
Also, the search display thumbnails are very tiny on mobile. Wish there was a way to make them bigger? See screenshots. Furthermore, not sure if it’s a glitch or css conflict with my theme but the pagination numbers are shifted and not centered in the design. See screenshot

KeymasterSure!
I have adjusted the keyword logic, which I think sits much better with your use case: https://i.imgur.com/c152C06.png
The missing results were attributed to the search in categories option, which was disabled, so I re-enabled it: https://i.imgur.com/4qTCcqh.pngYou can adjust the isotopic results values here: https://i.imgur.com/Xg5mRep.png
I usually use the setup as on the screenshot – so 4 rows are displayed on desktop, 3 on tablet and 1 on mobile.November 15, 2024 at 1:13 pm #51850Kenny Berwager
ParticipantSearch works much better now. Thank you.
I’ll have to try adjusting the isotopic results values.
Regarding all the filters on the home page search form… If I select to filter by community it doesn’t bring up any community results. Same thing happens when I select floor plans, then choose number of bedrooms and/or number of bathrooms or any of that extra filtering, it just says no home listings found. It’s supposed to bring up community and floor plan custom post type results. Now, it will bring up floor plans but without any additional filtering added. Are the filter fields below the checkboxes only valid for the home listings custom post type??? If so, those filter fields are pointless. I have no idea how to solve this dilemma. Can you help?

KeymasterI tried to check and log-in, but the server is not responding. I waited over 3 minutes, but it does not load at the moment, there might be a temporary issue.
The filters are valid for any custom post type that has those taxonomies attached to. Do the floor plans have those fields?

ParticipantSorry, I think since installing WP Rocket cache and ShieldPro Security plugin something is cancelling out /backoffice for the admin. So just use https://jamyershomes.com/admin or /wp-admin to login.
Yes, floor plan use those fields via ACF Pro

KeymasterThanks, that worked.
The communities don’t have the “sq_ft” custom field, which applies to all results as it’s a range slider. You can either add that field, or if that’t not possible, then use this option to check if the results doesn’t have the field and include them either way: https://i.imgur.com/WEHJp3s.png

ParticipantCommunities wouldn’t have ‘sq_ft’ as a search criteria. ‘Floor Plans’ and ‘Home Listings’ custom post types would because they are relevant to the actual homes offered whereby people can search actual home details. Communities are just the neighborhoods/developments the homes reside in.
November 21, 2024 at 10:01 am #51939Ernest Marcinko
KeymasterIt makes sense of course – but from the search perspective this option is what you are looking for.
That will make sure to not apply filters to post types, which don’t have a value set on the filtered fields. Therefore you will see results from Communities even while using “sq_ft” filter, as it’s going to be ignored in that case. -
