Have trouble setting up search

I have recently bought Ajax Search Pro and am having difficulty in setting it up correctly.

I want to search the Open Gardens category within Events. I have set the ‘Search Sources’ to Post type >> Events then I have set the Taxonomy to ‘Event Categories’. I have added to the page and as expected it searches all Event categories. I then tried excluding categories in the ‘Exclude categories/terms by ID’ section so as to narrow the search down to just Open Gardens. However I am still seeing other Event categories, that I have excluded appearing within the results.

I realise I’m doing something wrong so looking for help.

Thank you very much for the details, it helps me a lot!

I assume you want to narrow the Event results to the Open Gargens category? For that you need these settings.

The Search Sources -> Taxonomy term search panel is to search and return taxonomy terms as results, it is not in relation with the post type results (Event results).
