Is there a way to keep the results from jumping to the header? Ideally, I’d like the results to display where the search box is or slightly below it.

Unfortunately there is no way to make it as a pop-out window, and I don’t think it will ever be implemented in the future, I’m sorry. It seems trivial I know, but it’s a very complicated issue.
