ParticipantHi
Just a simple question and no errors so far. This is for PDFs, I have done a setup according to the documentation – index etc. Can you please point me in the right direction (documentation) to
a) customise the search results. I would like a page with a list of result items with an image of the pdf
b) how can I specific which pdfs I want indexable? Currently all pdfs site wide are being indexed.Thank you.
regards

KeymasterHi Erik,
Sure!
1. WordPress can usually create featured images for PDFs from the first page. If you go to the media library and click on a PDF document and see an image, then the plugin will be able to use that. Otherwise the server probably does not have the ImageMagick library installed or configured properly. I recommend checking this tutorial for that.
2. Unfortunately the only way for now is to index everything – however you can exclude items by their IDs on the media search panel.

ParticipantThank you!
I am selling journal pdfs and want to either allow for a user to buy the individual journal pdf or to buy a membership. wordpress and woocommerce.
– to have search keywords highlighted in a pdf excerpt, would I need the Search File Contents addon? I’m guessing that jumping to that part of the pdf document with that keyword is not possible due to the way a pdf loads? I see keyword highlighting words for posts and pages.
– then, I have pdfs behind a paywall. I haven’t checked, but I am wondering how this will work?
– is it possible to customise the results page? I would like to take a user to a page with a button to buy.Currently I am going through your Staff search demo: https://ajaxsearchpro.com/staff-search-filter/ but perhaps there’s another more suited to my usecase?
I appreciate your help.

ParticipantHi Ernest
How much do you charge if you configured the search and search results for me? I want to do something similar to this https://yalebooks.yale.edu/search-results/?keyword=politics
when you click an item, it takes you to a buy page.
thank you!

KeymasterHi,
– For the keyword highlighting yes, I recommend using the media service addon. You can get by with the free license most likely – if your files are generally 10MB or less.
– For the paywall you probably have a plugin or a custom code of some sort, WordPress does not have a feature in core for that. Every single one works differently, so it’s hard to tell.
– The results page is a theme feature. I usually recommend using a page builder if the current theme does not have customization options for it. Most newer themes do have an option to customize the results archive loop, try looking if there is anything in the settings.Unfortunately I am not available for custom jobs – support/development as well as videos, documentation etc.. takes away all my time 🙂

ParticipantThanks Ernest. ok, as long as it can be done we will figure it out. We use wordpress with elementor so can hopefully build a results page – if I understand you correctly.

KeymasterYes – Elementor is a good choice for that. You can create all kinds of archive page templates as you like.

ParticipantHi Ernest
A question from me again. The woocommerce search filter is exactly what I need. Here is the setup page: https://ajaxsearchpro.com/woocommerce-search/?p_asid=8&p_asp_data=1&termset%5Bpa_size%5D%5B%5D=-1&aspf%5B_price__4%5D%5Bupper%5D=90.00&aspf%5B_price__4%5D%5Blower%5D=2.00&filters_initial=0&filters_changed=1&qtranslate_lang=0&woo_currency=EUR¤t_page_id=578&asp_s=
We have woocommerce installed for an LMS and can use it for selling out pdfs. I have added 1 pdf and followed the tutorial, only issue it is not displaying as per the demo.
1) it needs to show all the products and then filter. currently not displaying any pdf by default
2) the search is configured filter products only in a specified category – but all pdfs are displaying in the dropdown, not as per demoHere is the page https://realacademy.net/the-knowing-field/ the only 1 pdf should show on first load. Keyphrases have been added to the product. On search all pdfs have been indexed. I imagine this may be a carry over from my prrevious setup in the index table. Perhaps I should not use the index file?

KeymasterHi,
I assume the PDFs are categorized in some way, and you want to only include PDFs from a specific category only?
In that case remove the front-end filter, that’s not going to work that way. Instead follow this tutorial. There are two screenshots in there, make sure the option in the second screenshot is turned off – so that items without a categorization are excluded.
