ParticipantYes, this worked perfectly.
Please go ahead and close the ticket. I don’t think now I will need any other particular texts in light.
Much appreciated.

ParticipantI tested the CSS you sent and it works, but I would like CSS specifically to change the ‘Results title link font’ and ‘Show more results’ text.
Thanks for your time.
kamaltyagi
ParticipantGreat. That worked perfect.
Thanks again for your kind attention.

ParticipantYes! Sorry I missed that.
Problem solved.
kamaltyagi
ParticipantYes! That works just fine.
Thanks again.

ParticipantYes, great, that closed the gap just fine.
I appreciate all your time on this.

All the best,

ParticipantYes! These fixes worked easily.
Much appreciated.
Sorry to go on and on here, but one more thing I am finding is that there is a gap that appears between the search bar and the dropdown with the results. How can I control the size of this gap?
kamaltyagi
ParticipantThanks for the thorough reply Ernest.
The fixes you offered worked, and I understand the complexities of adjusting the other elements.
I think I have the function setup now to work.
I just am having a couple more issues.
1) The settings dropdown menu and the results dropdown are showing up behind my site header. I had to adjust the z-index on the search button to 999999 to get it to show up on top. Perhaps I also need to change the z-index for the dropdowns, but I don’t see an option in the settings to do this.
2) The search starts automatically after text is typed, but if I press enter after typing the text the default wp search runs. Is there a way to disable this default search from running when enter is pressed?
Thanks again for your time.

ParticipantThanks Ernest.
I have followed the suggestions you provided and the function is working for the most part. I am having run into some issues though.
1. I find that in the “Absolute” positioning mode, there is no overlay available. Is it possible to enable that somehow for this search function as works in the ‘fixed’ mode?
2. There is some sort of border or shadow on the button that can’t figure out how to remove (you can see it in the top right corner here along the bottom edge of the button: http://premadharma.org/wisdom-stories/). I have disabled all the border and shadow options I can find in the settings and that removed other borders I saw initially, but this one I can’t get to disappear.
3. For some reason I can’t figure out, the settings button places itself on a lower level than the rest of the elements in the search bar. I don’t know how to get it to sit in level.
4. The loading icon displays itself a little more than halfway outside the search bar on the far right and is barely visible. I’d like this to be vertically centred in the bar and fully visible.
5. The x-button to close the results shows up in the top right corner of the search bar. I’d like this also to be vertically centred in the bar and fully visible. Is there anyway also to colour the black portion of this button?
6: The settings offer options to specific the search box height and width. I have set the width to 30px and the height to 48px but the search box still remains displayed as a square.
I appreciate your time and assistance with this greatly.
kamaltyagi
ParticipantYes, that solved the problem and the search displays the two results as desired.
I greatly appreciate your care for these details.

ParticipantI removed the error from the code (my mistake entirely), and now the function nearly works. Still using the “swan of your heart” test, when I search for exact matches, I get the exact match from the bottom of my 700000 character page! Great. This exact phrase occurs in one other piece on the site, however, and the result that shows up for this page, which happens to come first, for some reason does not display the highlighted exact match (this other page is much shorter in length).
Is there any way to be sure all instances of an exact match get displayed and highlighted in the results?
kamaltyagi
ParticipantI made the change as you described (see screen shot), but I find that now the
Description (content) length” displayed in the results is not limited to 130 characters as is found in the settings I have and that nearly an entire page worth of text shows up in the result. Also, if I search for “the swan of your heart” with an exact match, the function just stalls with the loader blinking for minutes on end and I have to restart my browser.kamaltyagi
ParticipantI made the adjustments you suggested, and I do see the desired changes for the most part.
However, I checked and what I believe is my longest page is nearly 700000 characters long (http://premadharma.org/revealed-truth/). I adjusted the setting in the backend accordingly, and now if I run a search for the phrase “the swan of your heart”, which occurs near the bottom of this page, then the search function does not find the phrase, but if I click on in the front-end settings, “search for exact matches only” then it finds the correct page but it does not highlight the text.
Is there anything more I can do so that it highlights the exact match?
kamaltyagi
ParticipantThanks for the reply and clear pointers Ernest.
I thought that the second one was it, but I was confused because it doesn’t seem to work properly. I have both of the buttons you have specified enabled, but I am not seeing the highlighting in the search results.
For example, in a post on my site such as http://premadharma.org/the-intelligence-of-a-woodcutter/, the word ‘undisciplined’ occurs in the last sentence of the text. The post is 4800 characters long and I have the “Display the description context?” button on and set to the default of 100000 characters. When I run a search, the result for the page http://premadharma.org/the-intelligence-of-a-woodcutter/ shows up but the result field shows only the post excerpt and does not highlight the word ‘undisciplined’.
Is there something else I need to do to enable this function?
In some cases the search results do seem to highlight a specific word that has been search for, but in others they show only the page excerpt or the initial lines of text on the page. How can I set the search function to consistently display and highlight the word that was search for?
I appreciate your help and I hope I have explained my query clearly.
