ParticipantHi Ernest,
you’re the best, actually :). Thank you for making this a priority before you leave for vacation. The site in question is in a week of testing phase, content is being added in, and the site should be released early next week, so I am grateful you can possibly solve this. Please best let me know here so I can try out the update, if not too much hassle for you ;).
If you ever come to Berlin (do you?), please let me know so I can offer you a beer or something :)!

ParticipantHi Ernest,
thank you for your thorough answer. I just had a peek at a similar thread and had already tried out the code you mentioned there, tailoring it to exactly only the search instance at hand, but didn’t have any luck with it. Also, turning off compact mode didn’t help, the field is accurately expanded, but no tapping possible. The fun is, when you try a random URL to trigger the 404 page when there is a second, almost identical search form, that form actually IS working.

ParticipantHello again :),
I just got a report back and can confirm, that with the next-to-last version (I never get any e-mails about updates, that is strange, have to pull them manually) input and select fields on any form, be it AJAX search, Gravity forms or hand-made forms, weren’t tappable on mobile at all. In rare cases you could press a bit longer on an input field and finally could enter something.
I just checked for an update and did a manual update to 4.8, and now other forms work well, only the search in the mobile menu still isn’t responding to touches. Do you have any idea if something from your side might be causing this? All the best

ParticipantHi Ernest,
thank you for your real quick and eloquent reply. Then I already nailed it as why it doesn’t work.
The cloning, as done here, had two advantages when I opted for that solution on another project some time ago. My more basic version failed to meet expectations, since I wasn’t able to have it float in with an animation, and having the clone use different classes etc. made for complications with styling.
However, in this case I will be sure to use another solution, since we depend on your plugin :). I will also keep in mind to look for a better solution that does not involve cloning at all ;).
Thanks again for keeping it all up ;).

ParticipantHi Ernest,
thanks for getting back to me. Too bad you’re too far away for a spontaneous coffee together :).
Yes, category archives. It’s a list of posts from the category, with more or less info depending on the theme, of course. However, I had this already enabled, but even though I have a post with that search term in a category, it doesn’t output the category page as a result. Is that supposed to happen?
Category custom fields. Well, yes, that is new, but with Advanced Custom Fields you could store them already since quite a while. This way I am able to give a WYSIWYG field that contains more options for the site’s backend users. If you find time to evaluate it, that would be great. My customers misuse the field to store a lot of information and would like to have it included in your plugin’s search results ;).

ParticipantHi Ernest,
sorry I didn’t reply earlier, got a bit hectic before we left for Norway. (And you should definitely go there, the landscape and the quietness is really stunning!)
As it happens, my customers would have needed both the grouped search results and the display of archive pages. Would that in any way be possible with maybe another small modification of sorts :)?
All the best and thank you so much for your quick and friendly help as usual :).

ParticipantHey Ernest,
good you still remember me :). There were actually some smaller things I was still waiting for, but it got lost a bit within other projects meanwhile (one thing was the ability to re-name CPT from singular to plural, so it doesn’t say „Page“ or e.g. „Recipe“, but „Pages“ and „Recipes“ on search result groups – don’t know if you ever considered this actually 🙂 ).
Okay, no rush, but thanks for considering catering a solution for the latest challenge with category archives, will gladly wait for something you come up with.
How have you been lately? Any holidays in sight? Warm summer, around your place too :)? I am just about to drift to Norway for two weeks with my family, starting on Friday. A bit of refreshment since Berlin is super hot these days :).

ParticipantHi Ernest,
that is good to hear, and obviously you are still believing in the good of people, since you don’t seem to check usage through your plugin. I value that highly, and respect that, as said above :).
Thank you for the referral program tip, it should work with normal users as well. Only restriction I see is that these users have to be new users in order to gain anything from it. But since I don’t do much into trading and referring it won’t bother me as much :).
All the best and thanks like always

ParticipantHi Ernest,
yes, that was the problem, I had it set to “AND with exact word matches”. Changing it to “AND” helped, thank you! The settings got a little overcrowded, so I just missed out on this setting I suppose :).

ParticipantHey Ernest,
just one thing, not really related to this one. We have a post that has “360dialog” in its title. I didn’t activate “Show exact matches only”, but when I search for 360 the post does not show, with 360dialog it does. Is that by design? Or what is meant by exact matches?
Thanks again

ParticipantYou’re welcome so far :). Just let me know when you found a fix!

ParticipantHi Ernest,
that did it! Although I did not activate fulltext search (see attachment) it was enabled by default, even though it showed it did not (see attachment :)). When you now try your search it is working again… I wouldn’t have had any idea this could be the problem! So it seems like a bug, yes :).

ParticipantMaybe it is easier with a concrete example: Just go to http://www.testboks.com/testpress/ (my testing area) and type in “Telekom” or “Akamai” – on both terms you don’t get the posts that have the term in its title onto the top, but ones that are newer and have the search term in their content are on top of the results.

ParticipantHi Ernest,
it’s exactly one word that I am typing in – AJAX. That’s when the right sorting already fails, no combination of keywords in place :).
Search term: AJAX
Article one (older) named: “AJAX is king” (AJAX appears in content multiple times as well)
Article two (newer) titled: “Javascript is really fun” (AJAX appears once in content only)The second one is on top of the list as opposed to the result wheighting options. Here the secondary sorting (via date) seems to kick in, which is kind of strange to me – or is it meant this way?!

ParticipantHi Ernest,
thanks for your speedy reply. Let me get this right: I told your plugin to measure headings as 10 and content as 1. Nonetheless it prioritises posts that are newer that do NOT have the term in its title as opposed to an older one that has the term in its title (like in my AJAX example).
I don’t bother much for the occurence of terms, my priority is to have posts on top that have the term in its title (that’s what the relevance settings are for I thought) ;).
All the best
