We have now taken live our site with the Search functionality enhanced by the AjaxSearchPro plugin. Surely it is adding good features to our Search experience.

We have already had a conversation earlier in this thread, but as it is important for us, so I would like to bring your attention to below.

We have enabled grouping in vertical result, which is working as expected. As per the current plugin features we are able to display results under different Groups. But currently users need to scroll all the results under a group in order to navigate to results of another group. For example – we are grouping results by 3 groups. So, if the first group has 100 results, then that means that the user might have to scroll all the 100 results to get to next Group.

So we would request you to enable some feature to display a particular no. of say 2 items from every GROUP and a SHOW MORE button each of the Groups. In this way we can show 2 items from every group and whichever Group the User wants, he can just click on SHOW MORE button to see that result category.

Can you take this as a feedback and Try to implement this in future Release of the plugin?
As most of the target prospects are coming from Search so, we really want this Feature to provide a fluid experience to our users. Limitless pages packed with dozens of results on each GROUP tend to turn the Prospects off as users don’t want to spend much time looking at the long list of results.

Can you assure us that this feature to be enabled in Future Updates of this ASP plugin?

One peculiar issue I got, hope it will be a quick fix.

In our site https://MOTOR.COM

While searching for result oriented keyword….say—-“parts suppliers”, we get below screen which is normal. (we have Search Page header written – “SEARCH RESULTS”)

While searching for keywords, which do not have results, that also appearing normal (see SEARCH RESULTS header at arrow pointed part in below image)

BUT for a keyword, Interpretation or, Interp, the SEARCH RESULTS header part is disappearing from the results page. see arrow pointed part in below image.

Yes that seems to fix the issue.

I tried a lot of CSS options, but max-height also, maybe somewhere other element so it was of no use.

This option also I tried earlier, but it extends the results container too long and the SCROLL bar disappears.

Currently I have set the value as “auto”.

For debugging, try to search the word “brake”, then click on close icon inside the search box. Then try again the same word. After 2-3 attempts, you can see the issue as mentioned earlier.

Can you help to find any other settings or, custom css that can resolve the issue.

Actually this is the last bug for which the whole project is on hold to be deployed to PROD.

Yes The issue persists even if I am trying that shortcode in a new blank page.

Okay for the above mentioned Scenario-1 i:e;

We type a word and the result got loaded in the result box. Now, we click on the close icon inside the Search box and typed SAME phrase again, the LIVE RESULTS page is deformed or, squeezed. see below.

I tried the value 6vw instead of default auto for following settings.

And I can see the issue is gone, but the results in the LIVE result window is now not aligned properly. But, the individual result height is affected because of this. SO thats make this issue, peculiar.

So can you suggest best settings other than auto for “One result item height” so that it fits and the issue is resolved.

Hi Ernest,

The site is an internal staging site and is firewall protected. so debugging through FTP won’t work out.

Anyway. That part can be ignored now as at least we got some improved performance now.

One more peculiar issue.
When we type something on the Search box it displays a white box as LIVE SEARCH and an Ajax loader is there.

Now 2 Scenarios –

1) Scenario-1 >> With CLOSE ICON ENABLED in the Search Box –
we type a word and the result got loaded in the result box. Now, we click on the close icon inside the Search box and typed SAME phrase again, the LIVE RESULTS page is deformed or, squeezed. see below.

2) Scenario-2 >> With CLOSE ICON DISABLED in the Search Box –
Now, if we type some word, then RESULT IS LOADED on the viewport and we pressed Backspace to remove the word or, phrase and type another word. Its Great working fine.

Now, if we type something and the Loader is showing up and during that time I pressed the backspace button to delete the phrase, then the white RESULT WINDOW STILL REMAINS for INFINITY. see the image below.

These 2 are VISIBLE Bugs.

Hi Ernest,

Thanks for the information. I implemented it and restricted the results limit to 200 and yes, it does improves the performance, faster than yesterday.

Now, one question, in our live site, the default wordpress search displaying more than 2000 records and its lighening fast. But after installing this plugin, if we are limiting to 2000, its becoming too slow to perform. Any specific reason to consider.

Hi Ernest,

yes even for me, its very difficult to debug with Chrome dev tools, as this loader issue is not occuring everytime. Its like sometimes, it is happening and most times it is working perfect.

Okay now coming to the Ordering related issue..

The issue is, even if there is a result which has Title exactly same as the Search phrase, but still, it is displayed in 3rd or, 4th place instead of first.

I just want, under each group, if a Title of a result matches the Search phrase, then it should be displayed on first place.

This is actually a protected site and not open accessible to internet, so I cannot provide you the link.

I checked for CSS compatibility but no result.

One more thing…
I have configured the results with 3 Groupings, with Ordering options as “Relevance” primary and “Date Descending” secondary.
There is a Other Results group with all the other results from other categories are accomodated.

Now for example I searched for a term “Technology Providers”, The result is categorized such that it is appearing inside “Other Results”…its fine. But the order of the most RELEVANT result with Technology Provider as title is appearing at 4th place.The weight of Title is set as highest, but still the order is appearing as 4 instead of 1.

So in a nutshell, inside the “Other Results” group, the results are not ordered according to their title relevance.

This is also happening for another group as well. For a Search phrase “seyfert” the results are accumulated in a “NEWS” group. Here the result which has title as “Seyfert” is actually appearing at 2nd place whereas, the result which has the search phrase in Content is appearing at first place.

One more bug.

Usually the loader normally behaves….But sometimes…when you type something and immediately hit Enter in the Search box in order to go to the RESULTS page….then the loader is not displayed and rather the 2 thick blue lines appear for some fraction of seconds….before the page is redirected to the Results page.

It looks ugly when user types something for Search and when he hits ENTER key, he used to see these 2 thick lines for couple of seconds.
Can you suggest something to remove this bug?

Yep..that was really helpful.

One more thing and It’s REALLY IMPORTANT….This actually came as an End User Feedback…….with grouping in vertical result, Currently users need to scroll the total no. of results ( say 500 ) to find the next Group.

Is there any way or, Can we display say 3 items from every group and a SHOW MORE button action for each of the Groups. In this way we can show 3 items from every group and whichever Group the User wants, he can just click on SHOW MORE button to see that result category.
