    hi Ernest

    I hope you are well

I am just touching base again about the search mechanism for the following site

The site is live now however the client has asked me to change the way the search works.

they would like something similar to the search on this site – https://www.xenbase.org/entry/ where there is a single line – first is a drop down of categories and second is the search entry box with search button [we don’t need that slide in effect that they have]

Is it possible to show the RADIO BUTTONS that I have presently as Drop Menu?

You will also see I have 2 search boxes on the https://xenopusresource.org site — the reason for this is the top search is a GLOBAL SITE WIDE search that picks up the search phrase even if its is only part of the actual search word.

So if we have the DROP MENU in place am I able to add a SITE WIDE SEARCH option in that would be the top item in the search menu? and that would search EVERYTHING in exactly the way that top search box does currently?

I have a TEST SITE that we can use also until this is resolved if that is easier

    Regards

    Philip

    Hi,

I think something similar should be doable without any custom coding. You can change the display mode of the category filters to drop-down here. Within that option you can choose to display the “Any” option as well, which will then ignore the actual filter.

Then check this demo page (there is a tutiral link) for a very similar side-by-side setup.

    hi Ernest

The problem I am having with this tutorial https://knowledgebase.ajaxsearchpro.com/miscellaneous/tutorials/demo-setup-staff-search-and-filter is I am not using Categories – I am using CPTs — how do I show the existing CPTs as a drop menu? but keeping the search box and search button?

you can see them on the DEMO SITE also – https://xenopus.fdmserver.com

If those are post type filters, then you can change the display mode to a drop-down here: https://i.imgur.com/7GlGmQP.png
That will change it to a drop-down and keep everything else.

    Thanks Ernest

The drop menu is showing now – https://xenopus.fdmserver.com [that is the demo site]

Can I add a SELECT ALL option in also? seems to be greyed out? see attached image

plus – i would like the layout to be in ONE line – just like this https://www.xenbase.org/entry/ where the is a drop menu a search box and search button all in a line.

    Regards

    Philip

Not at this very moment – but we are at the edge of a new release in a few hours. I will take a look at this, as I believe it should be possible, I think it was just mistakenly disabled.

Thanks Ernest – will I hold off until later — to give time for the update to be released?

You think I can achieve the layout and functionality I am looking for ok with AJAX PRO?

hi Ernest – i updated the plugin to the latest version 4.22.5 to the demo site https://xenopus.fdmserver.com

I active the SELECT ALL option for the Custom Post Types search — but it is throwing up an error – see attached screenshots

    Hi,

The error message does not relate to or originate from our plugin, it refers to a file in a different pugin directory: post-content-shortcodes

Thanks Ernest — i deleted that post-content-shortcodes plugin

    https://xenopus.fdmserver.com

however – if you search for ‘nog’ in the SELECT ALL option – no results are shown — yet when you select Plasmids or XLA Transgenics – results get shown for the same search term?

do I have to change the search filtering to get SELECT ALL to function correctly?

screenshots attached – I can also give you admin access to the demo site if that helps?

    Regards

    Philip

On the General Options -> Sources 1 panel, do you have any post types selected?

    hi Ernest,

I don’t have any selected in Sources — only in Front End Search Settings > Post Types

    See attached screenshots please

    thanks

That’s the issue then, there is nothing to search when the “any” option is choosen. Choose the post types there, and when the “any” option is selected, those will be used.
